Nina Jean Masters Murphy, 91
GAMALIEL-Funeral services for Nina Jean Masters Murphy of Gamaliel were held here Saturday, March 28, 2009.
Mrs. Murphy passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at the Monroe County Medical Center.
She was born January 12, 1918 in Clay County to the late Bedford Masters and Dulcena (Dollie) Hays Masters. She was a retired school teacher with the Monroe Co. Board of Education, and a member of the Gamaliel Baptist Church. She was the widow of Allie B. Murphy, who died December 2, 1967. They were married October 17, 1936.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son Billy Murphy; three sisters–Ethel Hestand, Locke Burnett, and Louise Masters; five brothers–Bennett Masters, Joe Masters, Cordell Masters, Hayden Masters, and Hill Masters; step-children Dennis Murphy and Pearline Martin.
She is survived by grandsons Joe Bedford and Lori Murphy of Gamaliel and Brad and Leveda Murphy of Red Boiling Springs; daughter-in-law Betty Jo Murphy of Gamaliel; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister Faye Dean Micheletta of Hendersonville.
Services were conducted from the chapel of Strode’s Gamaliel Chapel with James S. Jones officiating. Burial was in the Fountain Run Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Larry Pitcock, Danny Burgess, Todd Burgess, Murrell Collins, Lewis Wiley, and Gary Hestand. Honorary pallbearers were Roger Gillenwater, Arnold Turner, Randall Baskett, Jim McMillin, Sonny Oliphant, Tony Gumm, Voris Comer, Jerome Taylor, Dr. Jerry Gibbs, Roger Geralds, Jeff Ford, Billy Rowland, Jerry Capshaw, Jerry Ford, Joe Reed Downing, Jack Downing, Bob Greer, Billy Carder, Eddie Crowe, Nathan Copass, Dewayne Geralds, and Eddie Turner.
Strode’s Gamaliel Chapel of Gamaliel was in charge of arrangements.
