Clay’s Patterson selected for state Ag Leadership Program

CLAY COUNTY-The Tennessee Agriculture and Forestry Leadership Program (TAFLP) has announced its inaugural cohort for 2025, and Nick Patterson of Acres of Grace Farms, a local farm here in the west end of the county, has been selected as one of the distinguished participants.
Patterson joins a group of dedicated individuals who will work together to enhance the future of agriculture and forestry in Tennessee. His selection for this prestigious program reflects his commitment to rural development, sustainability, and leadership in the agricultural community.
Established by Patterson and his wife April, Acres of Grace Farms operation here includes cattle, row crops, hay production, and agritourism. The Pattersons are committed to sustainable agriculture and supporting the farming community.
As a TAFLP participant, Patterson will take part in the 18-month program designed to cultivate leadership and networking opportunities within the agriculture and forestry sectors.
TAFLP was developed by the Naifeh Center for Effective Leadership, an agency of the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service (IPS), in partnership with the UT Institute of Agriculture (UTIA), the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, and other agricultural organizations.
The program equips participants with advanced leadership skills through statewide and national travel, industry tours, and leadership development sessions. These sessions focus on communication, critical thinking, entrepreneurship, and strategic planning, while also broadening participants’ understanding of major policy issues affecting agriculture and rural communities.
As TAFLP participants, Patterson and others will have the opportunity to engage with policymakers in Washington, D.C., visit agricultural operations across Tennessee and beyond, and gain valuable insights into global agricultural trends.
“Agriculture and forestry are the foundation of our state, ” said Tennessee Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher. “We want to invest in the people who are passionate about learning and leading in these industries. This program is a significant step toward ensuring continued success for the farms and forests of Tennessee for generations to come.”
The Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Tennessee Farm Bureau, UTIA, Farm Credit Mid-America, Tennessee Farmers Cooperative, and other industry partners have demonstrated strong support for TAFLP, recognizing its role in shaping the next generation of agricultural and forestry leaders.
