Relay for Life gets to the starting blocks this Friday
The official kick off for team registration and spreading the word about this year’s event, scheduled for June 24, 2011, is Friday, February 4, at 5 p.m. in the CCHS gymnasium hallway. Persons may visit the booths to learn more about Relay for Life, volunteer to help with fund raising, or purchase a luminary bag in honor or memory of loved ones or friends who have been a cancer patient. Relay for LIfe is a nation wide organization with local committees raising funds for the American Cancer Society.
The Clay County committee is co-chaired for 2011 by Laura Smith, Betsy Holtam and Anna Ruth Locke. Contact either for more information or to volunteer.
Five months have been dedicated for fundraising and planning for the event. Teams can be made up of church friends, family members, co-workers, retirees, youth teams who have an adult sponsor/supervisor, school teams (teachers and staff members, band/choir members, ball teams, cheerleaders, clubs), or any group interested in helping with the fight for a cure. Businesses are encouraged to form teams and compete.
A Celebrity Luncheon is planned for Thursday, March 24 at the Celina Church of Christ BOB building. Reserve your place or invite a group of friends and reserve a table. Requested donation is $10 per plate and more is gladly accepted as all donated proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
