Rolley Hole making a comeback in Clay County
CELINA-After traveling to Tompkinsville, KY for years to sharpen their skills, local Rolley Hole marbles players now have a place here to brush up on their game.
With the formation of the new Tennessee Knucklers Rolley Hole Marble Club, the marble yard at the fairgrounds has been refurbished and has become a popular place for shooters to gather.
Seasoned veterans and beginners alike can be found on any given day gathered around the marble yard located below the Cumberland River bridge, including several youth competitors.
Rolley Hole is deeply rooted here around the state line, with shooters from both Clay County, TN and Monroe County, KY carrying on the tradition of the game.
Many local players are preparing for the National Rolley Hole Marbles Championship and Festival, which is held at Standing Stone State Park each September.
The one-of-a-kind event not only attracts local players, but also those from different states and countries each year, and it has been featured by ESPN, ABC Evening News, Sports Illustrated, Tennessee Home & Farm, PBS, CNN, National Geographic, Southern Living magazine, and many more.
The Tennessee Knucklers have developed an official logo and the club is open for membership. For more information, contact Andrew Walker at 931-267-0444 or Kenzie Adams at 931-319-0722. The group also has a Facebook page, which can be found by searching for Tennessee Knucklers.
