Scam alerts issued
CLAY COUNTY-A pair of scam alerts have been issued here locally in the last week, as both Twin Lakes and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office announced warnings on their Facebook pages.
Twin Lakes said customers are being targeted by telephone, while the local sheriff’s office told the public to be aware of scammers utilizing their mobile app.
“We have been made aware of scam calls being made to our customers, with scammers impersonating Twin Lakes from an out of state telephone number and requesting to redo their fiber to the home,” Twin Lakes posted. “This is NOT us. Twin Lakes is not requesting to redo the fiber to your home.
“Please do not share any personal or financial information with these callers and do not grant permission for them to access your property. If you receive such a call, hang up immediately and contact us directly. Your security is our priority—stay vigilant!”
Clay County Sheriff Brandon Boone said he had been made aware of the scam using the Clay County Sheriff’s Office mobile app and the MobilePatrol app.
“The scammers are monitoring the booking records on both apps and contacting relatives or friends requesting them to pay for the arrested individual to be released on ankle monitoring device,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook. “If you receive this type of call, please do not pay anything over the phone or give them any of your personal information. If you receive a call like this, please report it to the sheriff’s office.”
