Scam warnings offered again
This time by area hospital and electric cooperative
CLAY COUNTY-Residents here are again being warned of recent scams, this time by both Cookeville Regional Medical Center and Tri-County Electric.
“A Tri-County Electric member in the Lafayette area recently reported receiving a phone call stating they have overpaid and will need to be issued a refund,” Tri-County officials announced on Facebook. “The scammer requested the member give them their Visa, Mastercard, or checking information in order for the refund to be completed.
“Unfortunately, some of the scammers have become sophisticated enough that Tri-County Electric or names of people that you know will sometimes show up on your Caller ID.”
Tri-County Electric stressed they will never contact anyone asking for credit card numbers, payments. or for any personal information.
“We recommend that you contact your local law enforcement agency regarding any solicitation requesting personal information,” Tri-County said. “Please be aware and alert regarding potential scams.
“It is always better to be safe than sorry!”
If residents identify a scammer, Tri-County suggests hanging up and calling them directly at 1-800-369-2111.
CRMC scam
Phone calls are also being made to the public from two Cookeville Regional Medical Center (CRMC) phone numbers, including 931-783-2200 and 931-783-2000.
“(The calls are being made) regarding a patient missing their Medicare appointment or needing to update their insurance at CRMC,” hospital officials said. “This is a scam.
“It’s crucial to exercise caution when receiving such calls. We want to educate and remind the community to be aware of scam calls and to verify the caller before giving out personal information.”
