School board approves bids for CTE building, internet
CELINA-The Clay County School Board approved bids for a new grant-funded CTE Building on the campus of Clay County High School and internet access from Twin Lakes, among other business at their final meeting of 2024 last month.
According to a video of the meeting posted on the Clay County Schools CCBE YouTube page, Mid-State Construction was awarded the building bid due to the board’s familiarity and past experience with the company.
The motion was made “based on our previous experience with those folks and considering the time sensitive nature of the grant,” board chairman Benji Bailey said.
Board member Nick Melton made the motion to award Mid-State the contract. It was seconded by board member Mark Ashlock and passed unanimously.
Both an “internet access” and a “dark fiber” contract were also awarded to Twin Lakes at the meeting via unanimous votes, after motions were made respectively by board members Nathan Sherrell and David West, and seconded respectively by board member Todd Lynn and Ashlock.
A budget amendment “primarily related to a couple of grants” was also approved, and Levi Garrett was approved as a non-faculty paid assistant football coach.
