Scout leaders complete training
Local Boy Scout Troop 191 Scoutmaster Al Westbrook and Assistant Scoutmaster Justin Kirk completed NRA basic rifle safety the weekend of November 22nd and 23rd where they practiced the five fundamentals of shooting: aiming, breath control, trigger control, hold control, and follow-through.
Three fundamental safety rules that can prevent accidents are :
1. ALWAYS keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction (down range)
2. ALWAYS keep your trigger finger OFF THE TRIGGER until you are ready to shoot.
3. ALWAYS keep your firearm UNLOADED until you are ready to use it.
Their training will help the volunteer leaders of Troop 191 provide a better outdoor shooting sports experience in sporting clays, skeet and rifle target shooting for both Troop 191 in Celina and scouts in the Upper Cumberland district.
Safety is fundamental to all shooting activities and the development of knowledge, skills and attitude.
BSA and the NRA believe when shooters practice use of firearms accidents don’t happen.
Both men expect to become NRA certified instructors following further training later this year and in early 2020.
