Second monthly 5-fish-limit event blasts off Friday night
CELINA-The second of a monthly series of five-fish-limit tournaments hosted by Friday night tournament director Luke Sherrell to compliment his regular weekly series will be held here at Dale Hollow Marina this weekend.
The June event featured several good sacks and a significant total purse worth over $1,800–thanks to the $100 entry fee, and Sherrell is looking for another good turnout.
“We had nearly 20 boats last time and we hope to see even more this month,” he explained. “The guys seemed to like the larger limit and bigger money.”
Billy Gardner and Saturday night tournament director Derrick Anderson won the last event with well over 15 pounds and seven other teams weighed in over 10 pounds.
The tournament will follow the ‘any species’ format, where largemouth, smallmouth, and Kentucky spotted bass are eligible for the weigh-in. Fishing hours will be from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. and there is a $10 big fish pot.
For more information about the Friday night tournaments, contact Sherrell after 6 p.m. at 258-3706.

Second place and $165 went to Robbie and Billy Joe Johnson for their sack weighing a total of 6.06 pounds.
The final paid position went to Steven and Jerry Arms. They won $65 with 5.78 pounds.
Five-pound bass seen two Friday nights in a row
CELINA-For the second time in as many weeks, a largemouth weighing over five pounds was carried to the scales at the Friday night ‘any species’ tournament held here at Dale Hollow Marina.
Last week Jeff Neal and Donnie Harris came up with one to win (see related story), and this week Ernest Garrison and Jerry Scott weighed a lunker in to claim the top prize.
Garrison and Scott totaled 8.29 pounds to take first place and $270, but their 5.19-pound monster largemouth was the highlight of the night as it won the big fish award worth an additional $140.
Second place went to Robert Reagan and Marty Shelley. They had a limit weighing in at 7.08 pound to win $175.
Mitch Robertson and Tim Reagan claimed the final paid position worth $115 with 6.64 pounds.
The events allow largemouth, KY spots, and smallmouth to be eligible for the weigh-ins and they run from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., featuring a $40 entry fee with 100% payback. They also have an optional $10 big-fish pot each night.
