Several candidates possible as city deadline draws near
CELINA-The qualifying deadline for the city election here in June is just a couple of weeks away now, and 10 candidates have already picked up or filed qualifying papers.
Voters will go to the polls on June 2 to elect a mayor and three aldermen, and the qualifying deadline for those races is Thursday, March 19, said election coordinator Frances Donaldson. The seats currently held by mayor Buddy Thompson and aldermen Elwood Ervin, Donnie Long and Don Haston will all be on the ballot. The candidates, including three for mayor, who have already filed their qualifying papers are (I denotes incumbent):
Mayoral candidates–Willie Kerr, Rush Rich and Buddy Thompson (I),
Alderman candidates–Patricia Ann Burton, Donald R. Haston (I), and William Joseph Locke.
Four other possible candidates have picked up qualifying papers for alderman, but had not filed them as of Friday just before noon.

Following policies of the past, the HORIZON will run a front-page, staff-written announcement for all city candidates, with a deadline for submission. All announcements received by the newspaper after that deadline, set for an April edition (more details at a later date), will be treated as advertisements and run on an inside page.
