Stephens, Copeland, Garrett players of the week
Bulldog football players Nick Stephens, Matt Copeland and Shawn Garrett have been named the HORIZON players of the week for their efforts in the last week’s key region win over Monterey.
Stephens and Copeland, part of the Clay County High linebacker corps, combined for over a dozen solo stops as the Bulldogs held the Wildcats to 82 yards in the second half and made at least four fourth-down stops in the 13-10 comeback win. Copeland is unofficially the leading Bulldog tackler after two games, and Stephens is in the top five.
Garrett moved from wide receiver to the backfield in the second half, and wound up rushing for 180 yards in only 10 carries against Monterey. He had runs of 51 and 62 yards (TD) in the game.
The HORIZON will announce the player(s) of the week here each Thursday during the season.
