Two tied for lead after first week of prognosticators
Former Celina High basketball coach Thomas Watson and his former player and brother-in-law Mark Strong are tied for the lead after the first week of the Horizon Peerless Pigskin Prognosticators.
Watson and Strong recorded fine 12-3 records the first week, and they were followed closely by family member Gary Strong at 11-4. Gary would have been tied for the lead if not for his lone-wolf pick of Miami over Atlanta in the NFL.
Teia Adams was next at 10-5, followed by her brothers, Brent and Brian Burchett, at 9-6. Defending champ Michael Miller struggled to an 8-7 mark, largely due to missing four NCAA games. Miller stayed above the .500 mark on the week with his choice of Westmoreland over Smith County, picking up a game on the field.
The pickers had a tough time with the high school games, and did very, very well in the pros, which is not the norm. They missed three times as many high school games (15) as they did NFL picks (5), and four of those were for choosing the Titans over Pittsburgh. That ratio is likely to change in the coming weeks.
