Waste reduction goal met in Clay
CLAY COUNTY-The Clay County Solid Waste Department has met their goal of achieving a 25% waste reduction as part of their 2023 Annual Progress Report from Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
Solid waste chairman and county commissioner Winton Young shared a letter with the HORIZON, which reads in part:
“Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) division of solid waste management (DSWM) is pleased to inform you that the Clay County municipal solid waste region achieved the 25% waste reduction and diversion goal as presented in Tennessee Code Annotated 68-2111-861 and Tennessee Solid Waste Processing and Disposal Rule 0400-11-01-.09,” the letter said. “According to the solid waste and diversion data gathered as part of the 2023 Annual Progress Report, the region achieved an 84% diversion rate.
“DSWM also received the yearly update to the region’s 10 year solid waste plan.”
Young explained “the 25% waste reduction is great, especially considering that people are moving into Clay County.”
Young also said he was “proud of the employees” who worked at the solid waste department.
