Wilma Dean Smith, 82
CELINA-Funeral Services for Dean Smith of Moss were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church with Elijah Smith officiating and Reyes Rich reading the obituary. Sons and grandsons served as active pall bearers while great-grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.
Wilma Dean Smith, age 82, died gracefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Dean was born in Clay County on December 20, 1934. Throughout her life she was first a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and served in many roles but her most treasured role was that of homemaker and matriarch to her family.
Dean was preceded in death by her parents Ermon and Lucetti (Collins) Rich; her loving husband Turner Isaac Smith; brother Cecil Rich; daughter Shelia June Smith; grandson Kelbee Smith. Dean was saved as a 14 year old girl and was a charter member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church until the time of her death. Dean married Turner in September 1948 and unto their union 8 children were born.
Survivors include her sons Donnie Ray (Henrietta) Smith of Moss, Ronnie Lee (Anita) Smith of Moss, James Eddie (Linda) Smith of Moss, Jimmy Dale (Judy) Smith of Moss, Richard Allen (Leslie) Smith of Gordonsville; daughters Kathy Mae (Steve) Scott of Bolivar, MO, Elizabeth Ann (David) Ogletree of Moss; brother Terry (Martha) Rich of Red Boiling Springs; sisters Regina (Chris) Hix of Moss, Jolena (Kevin) Corkern of Mt. Juliet; grandchildren Christopher Smith, Heather Burnette, Elizabeth Cothern, Elijah Smith, Shawna Hartshorn, Jeremiah Smith, Sheila Rumfelt, Joseph Smith, Rachel Rittenberry, Jerrell Smith, Kyla Smith, Rebecca Donaldson, Jacob Smith, Jacinda Delk, Sarah Graves, Megan Doss, Hannah Brown, Seth Ogletree, Levi Ogletree; 40 great-grandchildren as well as a host of other friends and family mourn her passing.
